PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS
POWER TRANSFORMERS TESTING & DIAGNOSTICS
RLA EXPERIENCE
- Thermal Power Station, 240MVA 240/15.75kV Generator Step-Up Transformer – Successful identification of deteriorating condition of the solid insulation; asset owners advised for prompt replacement; our assessment report enabled quick decision-making and prevented a catastrophic failure and operational disruption. Approx cost saving was 900m.
- Natural Gas Processing Plant, 13 Transformers of different voltage class & MVA ratings (220kV to 0.433kV, 40MVA to 2MVA) – RLA performed on 13 transformers helped the asset owners to build a priority matrix to implement necessary corrective maintenance actions in a timely manner. As a result, premature ageing in transformer insulation was addressed appropriately for obvious benefits.
TRANSFORMER DIAGNOSTICS THRU SFRA
- 480MVA Autotransformer – Identified missing Core-Earth link.
- 167MVA, 400/220/33kV Single Phase Auto Transformer – Identified Short-Circuit Fault on the Medium Voltage Windings.
- 50MVA, 132/11kV Three Phase Transformer – Detected winding deformation – hoop buckling.
- 50MVA, 132/11kV Three Phase Transformer – Measurement help to pin-point the problem on W-phase – core limb suffering from accidental earth.
PD DETECTION & MONITORING FOR HV EQUIPMENT
PD DETECTION USING RFI OR UHF DETECTION METHOD
- 315MVA, 400/220/11kV Three Phase Transformer – Online PD Detection helped identify tap changer fault.
- 2000kW, 6.6kV HT motor – Online PD Detection helped identify degradation stator insulation.
- RFI Survey of substation – more than 95 substations are covered for online PD survey in a LIVE substation covering more than 7000 substation apparatus and transformers. More than 65 apparatus and transformers were identified to be experiencing problems related to ageing or insulation defects. Successful identification of problems resulted in obvious benefits to asset owners and improved operational reliability into their business
ON LINE PARTIAL DISCHARGE MONITORING OF TURBO AND HYDRO GENERATORS
- Turbo and Hydro Generator PD monitoring - Successful Commissioning of PD measurement system followed by periodic online PD measurement with an objective of assessing the condition of newly commissioned generators as well as aged machine to assess insulation ageing.
PINPOINTING OF FAULT LOCATIONS BY ACOUSTIC EMISSIONS
- 315MVA, 400/220/33kV Inter-Connecting Transformer, State Utility, India – Identification of potential fault location within the transformer using Acoustic measurement method. This helped the asset owner to pinpoint the location of fault in a very large transformer exhibiting key gases in DGA tests.
- 500MVA Transformer – Acoustic PD measurement helped identify the probable location of internal fault in the transformer.
